sunlight to make food. The sun is an important source of energy called
the solar energy. We can use solar energy as electricity.
The Moon
The moon is the closest neighbour of
the Earth. It is smaller than the Earth
and the sun. It has no light of its own.
It reflects the light of the sun. The moon
circles the Earth in 27.3 days. Therefore,
it is called the natural satellite of the
Earth. Three astronauts, Neil Armstrong,
Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin landed
on the moon in 1969. Man on the moon
Stars
The twinkling stars in the sky are actually
very big in size. These stars also have
their own heat and light. We can see a
very bright star in the sky at night. It
is the Pole Star. Some stars in the sky
form groups. The groups look like the
figures of animals or other things. Such
groups are called constellations. The
Great Bear or Sapta Rishi is one such Constellation
constellation.
Knowledge Zone
Pluto is now called a dwarf planet.
Satellites move around planets and the planets move around the sun.
Jupiter is the largest planet.
Human beings have sent many satellites into space. Those satellites are called artificial satel-
