Movement. The purpose was to boycott all British goods. The movement

was successful and the British had to cancel their idea to divide Bengal
               into two parts.

                                                   The Revolutionaries

Some young people felt that the British can be driven out of India by using

force against them. Some of the early revolutionaries were Aurobindo
Ghosh, Veer Savarkar and Ajit Singh. The number of revolutionaries was
increasing every day. They wanted to sacrifice their lives for the freedom

               of their motherland.

               Mahatma Gandhi

The First World War began in 1914. The leaders thought
that the British would give freedom after the war. But

it did not happen. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
returned to India from South Africa in 1915. Gandhiji

               used Satyagraha based on non-violence.

Gandhiji joined politics in India. He knew that the

unity of people is the most powerful weapon against
the foreign rule. He asked the people not to obey the Mahatma Gandhi
unjust laws made by the British

               rulers. The government adopted

               cruel ways against the people.

In 1919, a meeting was held in

               Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar to
protest against the policies of the
               government. A British commander,

               General Dyer, along with his

               troops surrounded the place and
ordered the troops to shoot and
               kill everybody. Thousands of

men, women and children died Jallianwala Bagh

               on Baisakhi Day.
