Read a sample of a travelogue given below by a trekker.
Trekking in the mountains is always exciting! In February 2021, I went for a trek in Uttarakhand. Trekking
has become very popular among tourists here. I went to Lal Tibba, which is at a height of about 7500 feet
and is one of the best places for trekking in Uttarakhand. My parents and I set out to this highest point in
Mussoorie and the breathtaking view amazed us. I was full of wonder to be greeted by the spectacular beauty
of snow-clad Himalayas, thick deodar forests and green slopes. I enjoyed the telescopic views of Kedarnath
and Badrinath, too. The entire trekking expedition introduced us to the natural wonders and sceneries of this
beautiful place. We carried bottles of water, some snacks in our backpacks and had these under tall, shady trees.
On the way, I also had some tea and biscuits at a small stall. My parents had some coffee. We were clad in
woollens as it was very cold. The people were friendly and helpful. The Lal Tibba trek is suitable for two days’
trekking. I could also see a cluster of houses on distant hills and the smoke rising from them looked like clouds.
At some places, we walked through fog and clouds that had descended down the hills. The sound of chirpy birds
and wind blowing in the forest was wonderful. On the way, I also tried traditional dishes of Uttarakhand from
a shop close to Mussoorie and urad ke pakore (wada). The trekking experience was truly amazing!
Getting to Mussoorie: Mussoorie is about an hour’s drive from Dehradun, which is well-connected by buses and
railways from major cities like Kolkata and New Delhi. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.
Mussoorie is about 282 km from New Delhi and about 490 km from Lucknow. Taxis and buses help commute
from Dehradun to Mussoorie.
Best time to visit: The best time to visit is from March to June.
Special attractions: Camel’s Back Road; Depot Hill in Landour where Lal Tibba is located; Kempty Falls is about
14.5 km from Mussoorie.
(Note: Read travelogues in magazines, newspapers and on the Internet, mainly about travel experiences to Leh,
Sikkim, the Sunderbans, etc.)
