about 1000 years ago. Most of them live by

fishing and hunting animals found in this
                                                         region.

The Eskimos are short in height and have
flat faces with narrow eyes. Initially, they

were nomads and used to roam around for
hunting and fishing. While moving around,

they used to live in temporary houses, called
Igloos. These are made from blocks of ice.

Nowadays, most of the Eskimos lead a settled
life. The Eskimos are now living in small

villages and towns on the sea coast. They are
Eskimos hardworking people and are expert hunters

and fishermen. They use large boats, such as
umiaks and kayaks for hunting whales

and fishing in the sea. Nowadays, they
               also use motorboats and motorised

               sledges.

Most of the requirements of the Eskimos

are met by the animals. They get their
food from seals, salmons, whales and

other sea animals. The reindeers provide Igloo
them with milk, meat, skin and bones. Their food is rich in fat content.

Their favourite food is seal and reindeer meat, walrus liver and whale skin.

The Eskimos wear clothes made from animal skin and fur. They cover
their head with fur caps. They wear double trousers and high boots.

Their hooded jackets are called parkas. Men, women and children wear

               the same type of dresses.

Education has changed their lifestyle. There are pucca houses in the

villages and towns. Some towns are connected by airways with the cities in
Europe and North America. Women like to wear the colourful traditional
               dresses on special occasions.
