Some Rules to be Followed for Fire Safety
If there is leakage of cooking gas, open all doors
and windows to let the gas escape. Do not light
a matchstick or a candle. Never switch on or off
any electrical appliance before the gas escapes,
as it may ignite a fire.
Wear cotton clothes while cooking. Do not wear
nylon clothes as they catch fire easily. Fire can be put out by
throwing sand on it.
Never wear loosely hanging clothes while working
in kitchen.
Fire caused by petrol or kerosene should be put
out by throwing sand instead of water. Petrol
and kerosene being lighter than water float on
water and continue to burn.
Never throw water over a fire caused by electricity, Big fires are put out using
since water is a good conductor of electricity and fire extinguishers.
you may get an electric shock. Small fires can be extinguished by throwing sand
over them. Fire extinguishers can be used to put out big fires.
Fire crackers should be lighted with proper attention and precautions, that
too in the presence of elders.
Never play with matchsticks, candles and diyas (earthen lamps).
If somebody catches fire, do not let him run around
as the air would fan the flames. Instead, make
him roll on the floor or cover with a blanket or
thick and wet bedsheet immediately. This would
cut the air supply and extinguish the fire.
