 Industries are located where raw materials, power and a market are readily available.

 There are three types of industries—cottage industry, small-scale industry and large-scale
industry.

 Cottage industry is a domestic industry, run by family members and uses locally available raw
materials.
 Small-scale industries employ a few workers and produce consumer goods.

 The large-scale industries produce goods with the help of automatic machines.
 The major industrial areas are in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Agro-based Industries : Industries which use plant and animal-based products as a raw
material.

Mineral-based Industries : Industries which are based on minerals as a raw material.
