Operations of Measurements

In Class 3, we read about addition and subtraction of measurements. Let
us first recall what we learnt and then learn two more operations namely,
multiplication and division.

Addition of Measurements

Write the different units in separate columns and add ordinarily.

Example 7: Add:

(a) 25 km 600 m and 10 km 575 m

(b) 20 m 35 cm, 7 m 25 cm and 18 m 75 cm

(c) 120 kg 750 g, 202 kg 615 g and 75 kg 80 g

(d) 34 L 120 mL and 85 L 325 mL

Solution: Arrange the measurements in columns and add each

column. If required, regroup and carry over to the next
column.
