Example 12: Write the number name for

(a) 64382 (b) 331892

Solution: (a) 64382 can be written using commas as 64,382

Hence the number name is sixty four thousand three

hundred eighty two.

(b) 331892 can be written using commas as 3,31,892

Hence the number name is three lakh thirty one

thousand eight hundred ninety two.

Example 13: Write the numeral for

(a) twenty five thousand, six hundred seventy five.

(b) six lakh twelve thousand five hundred seven.

Solution: (a) twenty five thousand, six hundred seventy five: 25,675

(b) six lakh twelve thousand five hundred seven: 6,12,507

Five and Six digit Numbers in Expanded Form

A number when expressed as a sum of place values of its digits is said to

be in expanded form.

Place value of 4 is 40000 Place value of 3 is 300000

Expanded form of 342178 = 300000 + 40000 + 2000 + 100 + 70 + 8
