Example 3: Aman wants to fix 117 stamps equally in 13 pages of
his stamp album. How many stamps should he fix on

                            each page?

Solution: Number of stamps = 117

                            Number of pages = 13

                            ∴ Number of stamps on each page = 117 ÷ 13

                                              = 9 (Recall that 9 × 13 = 117)

Example 4: 12 items can be packed in a box. How many boxes are
                            needed to pack 5076 items?

Solution: For 12 items we need 1 box.

                            For 5076 items we need (5076 ÷ 12) boxes.

                                   4 2 3
                            12 5 0 7 6
                                – 4 8

                                       2 7
                                   – 2 4

                                           3 6
                                       – 3 6

0 Thus we need 423 boxes.

Example 5: 4000 pens are to be packed into pouches with 15 pens
in each pouch. How many complete pouches can be

packed? How many pens are left behind?

Solution: For 15 pens we need 1 pouch.

Number of complete pouches = Quotient of 4000 ÷ 15.

The remainder will be the number of pens left behind.
