Over a long period of time, early humans
developed better tools to dig the earth for
growing crops. They built huts with stones,
branches of trees and skins of animals. This
was the beginning of living in villages.
Many small villages developed near the rivers.
Due to settled life, the early humans had some
free time. They used to paint the pictures of
animals, plants and hunting scenes in caves.
Pottery
The early humans made pots from clay and used them for storing excess
foodgrains. They made baskets from straws and reeds.
Wheels and Transport
Early humans used to walk on foot to travel here
and there. Later, they started to use animals.
It was very tough for them to carry things.
Perhaps, they had noticed that a round log
of tree rolls very smoothly. Somehow, they
got the idea of wheel. The invention of the
wheel proved to be of great advantage to them.
Now, they could make carts for transport. The
floating log of hollow wood in the river gave
them the idea of raft. Gradually, they learnt
to make small boats.
Invention of Metal
Once the wheel of civilization and progress started rolling, man invented
and discovered different things from time to time. Metal was an important
thing that was discovered by early man. Perhaps copper and iron were
the first metals that early man learnt to use. They started making weapons
and farming tools using metals which were stronger and sharper.
