Chennai, earlier called Madras, is the capital of Tamil Nadu. It is located

along the southeastern coast of India, facing the Bay of Bengal. Chennai
is the fourth largest city in India. It is an important seaport in South

               India.

Chennai city has two distinct parts. The old city is towards the west
of the seaport. It is called George

Town. The new growth is towards
the South of George Town. Along

the coast, Chennai city is about 17

               kilometres long. Adyar and Cooum
rivers flow through the city. Anna
Salai, the main road, runs through

               the new city area.
