MATHS LAB ACTIVITY • Experiential learning

Aim: To count the number of faces, edges and corners of a given solid

Materials: Sketch pens of 3 different colours, solid objects like a cube,
cuboid, sphere, etc., paper and a pencil

Method

1. Take a sheet of paper and make three columns. Give headings
Face, Edge and Corner.

2. Then take a given object (say a shoebox). Also, take a sketch

pen.

3. Mark a sign on a face of the box and make a dot in the
face’s column. 

4. Repeat this until you mark all the faces of the box.

5. Then, take another sketch pen of different colour.
Now mark on the edge and insert the dot in edge’s
column. Continue this till you mark all the edges.

6. Thereafter, take the sketch pen of third colour
and start marking on each corner. Also make the
dots correspondingly in corner’s column.

7. After marking all the faces, edges and corners,
count the number of dots you have made in three columns

and show to your teacher.

Repeat the above activity with objects of different shapes.
