Appreciating the Poem • Words with more than one meaning
Some words can have more than one meaning. The way a particular word is
used in a sentence tells us its meaning.
In the poem 'My Favourite Toys', the word rest has been used. The poet
means ‘time you spend relaxing or sleeping’. The word rest also means ‘part
of something remaining’.
Examples: In the afternoon, my father takes time out for some rest.
(means, time to relax)
Roshan gave some ice cream to me and ate the rest. (means,
part of something (ice cream) remaining)
