P. 186
Place a book in front of a table fan.
Switch on the fan. What do you see?
How does it happen?
Air takes up space
When you blow air into a balloon, it
becomes larger. Why?
It becomes larger because the air blown by
you fills the space inside the balloon.
Take an empty glass and a tub. Half-fill the
tub with water. Turn the glass upside down
and push it into the water. What happens?
Now, tilt the glass a
little. What do you
see?
The glass goes into the water giving
out air bubbles. This shows that the
space inside the glass was occupied by
the air.
Air has weight
Take two footballs of the same size.
Fill air in one of them. Weigh both
of them on a balance. Which one is
heavier? Why?
The football filled with air is
heavier. It shows that air has
weight.
