MATHS LAB ACTIVITY • Experiential learning

Aim: To guess whether the length, mass or capacity of the given
thing is more or less than a unit and verify.

Materials: A metre rod, a 1 kg weight and balance, a 1 L vessel

and different objects like belt, ribbon, table, bottle, school bag, jug,
glass, etc.

Method: Instruction for teacher

1. Give an object to a student and ask him/her to guess its length/
mass/capacity. Suppose you ask the student the length of a

belt. Ask him/her to reply as – more than 1 m, less than 1 m
or exactly 1 m long.

2. After replying, give him/her a 1 m rod and ask to measure.
Then, ask him/her to record it in his/her notebook.

3. Repeat these steps with the other students for other objects.
