Preface

New Medley — An Integrated Semester Series is meant for Classes 1-5. It comprises 10 books (two semester books
per class). The core subjects included in each class are English, Mathematics, EVS (Classes 1 and 2), Social Studies
and Science (Classes 3, 4 & 5). A section of General Knowledge has been included in all the books to create general
awareness among children.
This series has been thoroughly revised, keeping in mind the guidelines of NEP 2020.
The series is well-planned, carefully graded and has appealing illustrations. It fulfils the requirements of the
primary–level syllabi and enhances the holistic development of children.
Other Key Features of the Series are:
 Warm Up — A pre-reading task that introduces the theme of the lesson.
 Checkpoint — Is meant for quick response to the concepts just learnt.

About the Subjects
English
The English section is based on multi-skill approach to teaching-learning of English. This approach enables the
children to master the LSRW skills. The reading material is a proper mix of prose and poetry. Grammar Worksheets
reinforce the grammatical concepts taught in the units.
Mathematics
The Mathematics section gives simple and straightforward explanation of mathematical concepts. Examples
drawn from everyday life help the children to understand the basic concepts easily. Ample exercises have been
given for practice. Maths Lab Activities and Mental Maths sharpen mathematical skills and make the process of
learning enjoyable.
Environmental Studies (EVS)
In Classes 1 and 2, Science and Social Studies are integrated as EVS. The EVS section comprises a variety of topics
which enable children to learn about their immediate surroundings and world around them.
Science
The Science section aims at satisfying children’s curiosity about the world around them and inculcating scientific
temper in them.
Social Studies
The Social Studies section introduces children to the rich cultural and social heritage of our country. Fundamental
concepts of History, Geography and Civics are also introduced so that children face no difficulty when they reach
the Middle Classes.
General Knowledge
The General Knowledge section enhances the general awareness of the children. It helps them to be aware and
well-informed about the world at large.
