Forming the Government
India is the largest democracy in the world. We follow the system of
Parliamentary Democracy. There are many political parties in our country.
They send their candidates to contest elections from all constituencies. The
political party which wins the election from the maximum constituencies
is invited by the President of India to form the government.
Sometimes, a single political party is not able to win the required number
of seats. In this case, some parties form a group to form a coalition
government. The Speaker, who is the Chairman of the Lok Sabha, is
elected by the members of the Lok Sabha only.
The political party or the group of parties elects their leader. He or she
is invited by the President of India to form a Council of Ministers or
Union Cabinet. The leader is appointed the Prime Minister of India by
the President of India. The ministers in the Union Cabinet can be from
the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The ministers are allotted different
departments by the Prime Minister of India.
