                                        3. WISDOM OF TENALI RAMAN
Once, an Arab horse trader came to Krishnadevaraya’s court. He showed him a horse that he
had got and said “Your Majesty, see this Arab horse. It is exceptionally good. If you like it, I
will get more horses like this one.”
Krishnadevaraya said, “Bring more such horses. I will buy them all.” The Arab trader said, “I’ll
need an advance of five thousand gold coins. I’ll bring more such horses.”
He was given the advance, but two weeks passed and there was no sign of the horse trader.
One day, the king saw Tenali Raman making a list. The king asked, “What are you writing?”
Tenali Raman said, “I’m making a list of the biggest fools in this kingdom.” Krishnadevaraya
asked for the list and saw his name right at the top. “Why is my name at the top of the list?”
             he enquired.

“Whoever gives five thousand gold coins to a stranger and thinks he will come back is a fool,
             Your Majesty.”
