A five digit number can be grouped into ten thousands, thousands, hundreds,
tens and ones.
Example 1: Write 52478 in ten thousands, thousands, hundreds,
tens and ones.
Solution: 5 ten thousands, 2 thousands, 4 hundreds, 7 tens and 8 ones.
Example 2: Write the numeral for: 6 ten thousands, 3 thousands,
4 hundreds, 7 tens and 4 ones.
Solution: 63474
Six Digit Numbers
Now let us learn numbers bigger than 5 digits.
We know that largest 5-digit number is 99999. Let us find its successor.
To do this we add 1 to 99999.

We get a new place value.
We will call it lakhs place.
We write L for it.
100000 is read as one lakh.
It is the smallest six digit number.
