Warm Up • Critical Thinking

A lot of things are used to build a house. Look at the picture
and name as many things as you can that are used in building
a house.

A HOUSE TO LIVE IN

We all have houses to live in. A house is a building or a structure in which

people live together happily. It protects us from heat, cold, rain, stray animals,
thieves, etc. We feel comfortable and safe in our house.

Have you ever seen people living on roadsides, under the trees, yovers or in the

shade of huge buildings? How do they protect themselves during rains and winters?

Materials Used to Build a House

Many types of materials are used to build di erent types of houses. Bricks, stones,

cement, sand, iron, steel, wood and glass are used to build a pucca house. Mud,
bamboo, straw and wood are used to build a kutcha house.
