9 Our Big City–Delhi

Warm Up

Name this famous monument of India.

Delhi is one of the four metro cities of India. The city of Delhi is situated
on the banks of the Yamuna. The official name of Delhi is National

Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT). Delhi is surrounded by Uttar Pradesh
in the east and by Haryana on the other three sides.

It is believed that long ago, the
Pandavas built Indraprastha on this

site. Later on, the Mughal emperor
Shahjahan rebuilt the city and called

it Shahjahanabad. In 1911, the British
shifted their capital from Calcutta to

Delhi.
