7 Our Villages and Cities
Warm Up
Write ‘V’ for the things that are found in villages and ‘C’ for the
things that are found in cities.
Most of the people in our country live in villages. Thus, India is called
the land of villages. The life of people in the villages is quite different
from what we see in the cities. The population of a village is much
smaller than that of a city.
The cities are bigger than the villages. The lifestyle of the people of cities
is different from that of village people.
Villages
The main occupation of the people in
villages is farming. Some of them are
craftsmen, such as carpenter, blacksmith,
mason, etc. Most of the people are poor.
Only a few have their own farmland. Many
work as labourers on the farms. A few
hundred people live in a village. Most of
the houses in the village are kutcha houses.
