Take points A and B as shown (at same vertical). Put the scale so that

its edge passes through A and B both. Run the pencil along the scale.
Remove the scale and the pencil. Mark arrow heads at ends of line. We

get a vertical line.

Now we draw a horizontal line.

Take points C and D as shown (at same horizontal level). Put the scale

so that its edge passes through C and D both. Run the pencil along the
scale. Remove the scale and the pencil. Mark arrow heads at ends of line.

We get a horizontal line.
