P. 152
Property 2: 12 × 7 = 84. Also 7 × 12 = 84
13 × 9 = 117. Also 9 × 13 = 117
14 × 8 = 112. Also 8 × 14 = 112
We get the same product in both cases.
The product of two numbers is the same even if the
order of numbers is changed. So, we can interchange the
multiplier and multiplicand.
Let A and B be the two numbers then
A × B = B × A.
Property 3: 5 × 0 = 0 or 0 × 5 = 0
19 × 0 = 0 or 0 × 19 = 0
67 × 0 = 0 or 0 × 67 = 0
185 × 0 = 0 or 0 × 185 = 0
The product of a number and zero (0) is zero (0).
Let A be any number. Then
A × 0 = 0. Also 0 × A = 0.
Property 4: Let us multiply 19, 27 and 38.
We can multiply any two numbers at a time.
9 × 27 × 38 9 × 27 × 38
= (9 × 27) × 38 = 9 × (27 × 38)
= 243 × 38 = 9 × 1026
= 9234 = 9234
We get the same product in both cases.
The product of three numbers is the same even if the
grouping of the multiplying numbers is changed.
Let A, B and C be the three numbers then.
(A × B) × C = A × (B × C)
